If you are new to our weekly newsletters, here is some information about us. We have added all our past newsletters to our blog so if you want to you can read more about my irrational fear of roaches or how I lost my keys and found them in an unusual place.
Hey! I’m checking in to see how you’re doing.
It’s hard to believe that we’re in our third month of April. What Phase are we in? Phase 11? All silliness aside, we have enjoyed seeing some faces (covered in masks) that we haven’t seen in a while. We appreciate you stopping by and shopping. We will continue with our modified hours and requirements for wearing face masks while in the store. Thank you for helping us stay safe.
While we are concerned about the second wave of COVID-19, we are in the midst of a second Black Wave (coined by Adella Colvin in her recent Instagram post.) She explains her experience in 2019 as a Black Maker. History shows that when a cause with this magnitude happens, it will inevitably wane at some point.
The good news is that things will get more comfortable for us.
The bad news is that things will get more comfortable for us.
White people get to wait until the uncomfortableness goes away, and the momentum dies down. I’ve done it so many times. Every marginalized injustice, I have felt outraged, spent my money helping, read articles, and so on. Then over time, the white bubble formed again, and the helplessness and uncomfortableness faded.
As a company (and family), we are looking for ways to continue our knowledge, education, and support. We are choosing to stand in the gap and, more importantly, stay there.
It’s a life long learning process, and I’m hoping to get to a point to listen without bias, then turn that into action and change for myself and anyone who is wanting to go on the journey with me.
Logan, Lily, and I are talking about what to do when we go back to our white bubble and can choose not to feel uncomfortable. We don’t want to wait until the next Black Wave to remember that we need to keep learning.
You’re cordially Invited
To World Wide Knit in Public Day!
When: Saturday, June 13th, 2020 at 10 AM
Where: On The Green in Davidson (by the library)
Bring your project, a lawn chair, and come enjoy everyone’s company at a safe distance. Some people are bringing snacks and drinks. You can come for 5 minutes or 5 hours (though it might be hot after a while.)
We will have a tent (for shade) and a table to put stuff on. This is very last minute, so stop by if you can! It’ll be fun.
Hug Shot Shawl
In honor of the totally made up, Hug Your Pet Week, Casapinka is offering the free Hug Shot pattern. Here are some kits. Casapinka extended the codes until June 14th. Let us know if you have any questions, we’re happy to help.

4th Annual 4-day KAL! Is anyone interested?
|4th Annual 4-day KAL! Is anyone interested?|
Olive Knits is making a sweater in four days. Yeah, I don’t think it will happen either. (At least for me) But this is the 4th Annual one so it must be successful.
The presale of the pattern is through the end of the month. The official cast on is July 4th. Then you knit madly for four days. (disclaimer the KAL ends August 1st so don’t panic!)
If you’re interested we can order the pattern for you, and help with any yarn choices. 🙂
Please remember that 25% of all our June profits will go to Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective
BEAM’s mission is to remove the barriers that Black people experience getting access to or staying connected with emotional health care and healing. We do this through healing justice-based organizing, education, training, grantmaking and advocacy.
One Last Thing
We will be holding a small summer camp in the afternoons next week from 1 to 4 pm. We have six kids and are following social distancing and the Town Of Davidson’s guidelines. We will also have ten kids from Ben and Jerry’s camp on Tuesday, June 16th from 9 am to 12 pm.
Basically what I’m saying is on Tuesday, you might want to order online or call us and choose curbside pick up. I’ll remind you next week. 🙂
